Another SharePoint graveyard
Got handed a SharePoint site this week. 4,000+ documents. No naming convention. Tags used inconsistently when they're used at all. Half the PDFs are scanned images with no OCR so search is useless.
The person who built it left two years ago. The folders are named after projects that don't exist anymore. There are seven different versions of one spec document in five different locations. None of them are marked as current.
This is what "let the structure emerge" looks like after the person who understood the structure leaves. The structure didn't emerge. It died with them.
Setting up a decent folder hierarchy and naming convention at the beginning would have taken maybe a day. Cleaning this up will take me weeks. But sure, we "didn't have time" to organize up front.
