Whatever, I'm a hypocrite
Started this site to complain about folder structures. Somehow ended up writing a seven-part critique of language theory. I have no idea how I got here.
I defined my categories before writing anything — Information Architecture, Specification, Critique, Meta — because I believe in that. Structure first. But looking back at what I actually wrote, it's all Critique. The categories didn't shape the content, the content ignored the categories. I did the thing I keep telling people not to do. I made a structure and then the reality diverged from the spec.
Also I'm pretty sure I've been arguing with a specific worldview this whole time without ever naming it. Which means if you haven't encountered that worldview, half of what I've written makes no sense. I built a codebook. I'm gatekeeping. Great.
Whatever. I still think I'm right. Write things down. Name your folders. Define your schema before you start shoving data into it. And don't tell me your jargon is "compression" when you can't be bothered to maintain a glossary.
I'll keep writing when things annoy me.
